Shower Success

Had the pleasure of co-hosting a great baby shower today for my BFF, who’s due in 6 weeks with her little man. Everything went off without a hitch — the food was delicious, everyone had a good time, the centerpieces and decorations were kick-ass. However, I am beat up from the feet up, as they like to say in these parts.

We did pretty well with budgeting for the event, with the help of a nice donation from a family member toward our costs. It wasn’t a very frugal shower, but then again, it wasn’t MY shower. Anyway, there are certain things I don’t skimp on, and celebrating my close friends and family members’ milestones is one of them.

Someone at the shower, a friend of mine from high school, asked when Mr. Not-So-Frugal and I are going to register for baby stuff. I’m a little bit superstitious, so I want to wait — plus, what’s the fun of picking out stuff if we don’t know what we’re having? We find that out in mid-October, so we’ll talk then about registry stuff.

I’m not a big fan of showers — I hate being the center of attention. I’m really not comfortable at showers (bridal or baby) even as a guest — it’s just a big present-opening party with food and cake and coffee. Just not my scene.¬†Anyone else out there feel the same? Mr. NSF won’t even consider a Jack-and-Jill-style party to ‘share the pain’ with me when the time comes. He’s such a sport, haha. It’s the least he can do if I’m carrying our child for 9 months, no?

  • I had a co-ed baby shower. It was great, like 80 people; however, there were so many gifts I literally spent 2.5 hours opening. I didn’t get to chat with many people at all. That was the disappointing point. And yes, you register about a month before the shower, so no rush…enjoy.

I didn’t register for anything until like 3 months before I was due with Teresa!! We had my baby shower 2 weeks before I was due (on Saturday) and ended up having her 3 days later. I was still returning stuff I got doubles of. It’s funny, because her and I were talking today about this very day. She loves watching the videos of when Dave and I got married, the baby shower, and when she was little. I told her thanks to the baby shower and very generous guests, I didn’t buy diapers until she was 8 months old and I didn’t pay out of pocket for formula until she was 9 months old and by that time she was almost done with it. I soo hate being the center of attention, but honestly Penny, the baby shower goes down as one of the best days ever. Right up there with your Wedding Day and Day of Baby’s Birth! Enjoy this time – it’s only happens a first time once =)

Oh! And one more thing…Dave didn’t leave me stranded lol – He stayed with me for the entire party and we enjoyed every single moment opening and organizing all of Teresa’s gifts and putting away all the tiny clothes!

@Julie: That’s cute that he “stuck with you” at your shower — I don’t see Mr. NSF doing the same, he hates opening presents, period, even at Christmas!

I like being referred to as “a friend of mine from high school”, lol. I must be the freak, bc I registered early with Danielle. It was too much fun not to!

And as the frugal one, you should know this, go neutral on the big stuff like carseats, strollers, pack n plays, and then you can reuse them if there’s a baby #2 of the opposite gender.

Co-ed showers all the way! I’m not a big center of attention person myself, so I like to share the spotlight. But I’m with you – if you are going to find out the sex of your baby, register until AFTER you find out.
